Team RRR: Roles, Responsibilities, Resources

We - the Teaching Assistants (TAs), Undergraduate Learning Assistants (ULAs) and Prof. K - are what we will collectively refer to as “Mentors”. These pages use the terms “mentors” and “team” interchangeably.

Each mentor has one or more role listed below.

  • The role link leads to the respective roleabbr.md file in the ref folder (e.g., cco.md file outlines considerations for that role).

Assistant Lab Developer ALD

In a nutshell: Helps with the lab activities and slides for the lab sessions.

Works with: CLD, CFM, CCO

  • Helps prepare and assemble lab activities and slides for the lab sessions.
  • Works with CLD, CFM, and CCO to make sure that slides address common challenges and misconceptions, and contain helpful examples.

Chief Assessment Coach CAC

In a nutshell: Creates the practice/Kahoot quizzes.

Works with: CAE

Chief Assessment Engineer CAE

In a nutshell: Helps create questions for the weekly quiz and its versions.

Works with: CAC

  • Works with the CAC to create the questions and their versions.

Chief Assessment Officer CAO

In a nutshell: Helps grade the quiz and its versions.

Works with: CAC, CAO, CLO

  • Add rubrics / grade the quizzes (always send the release email when grades are released)
  • Set the regrade window on Gradescope (close on Monday 9AM)
  • Address regrades - ping the CLO if not sure how to address the request.
    • If giving back points, don’t change the original rubric (it’s confusing to read the regrade request without seeing the original rubric items) - instead, use the points adjustment (the only time this should be used)
  • Works with CAC and CLO to create/update the rubrics, note questions that need to be changed in the future.

Chief Communication Officer CCO

In a nutshell: Helps manage course communication.

Works with: CLO, CIO

  • Responds to forum messages - messages should not go more than 24 hours unanswered; if needed or unsure how to respond, send CLO the link to the message that needs to be addressed.
  • As much as possible, refer students to the book and the posted resources. If a resource is not available yet, add it through a note/lab/section in zyBook or by making a post on the forum (using the “Reference” label/category).
  • Works with the CIO to update the notes for the weekly review to highlight the added resources.

Chief Feedback Manager CFM

In a nutshell: Processes weekly reflections.

Works with: CLO and everyone

  • Works with the CLO to assemble the questions for the weekly reflection form.
  • Addresses/collects notable feedback/examples. Processes the feedback by summarizing the results to share with the class and with the team.
  • Grades the responses, and after each due date, uploads the grades for the reflections.
  • Puts together a list of students who missed submitting the reflection and need a follow-up: works with the team to help send out the emails and/or make a forum post.

Chief Grades Manager CGM

In a nutshell: Helps maintain course grades.

Works with: CFM

  • At the beginning of the quarter, uses the syllabus to set up different Gauchospace gradebook categories (PAs, CAs, LAs, project, etc.).
  • After each hard deadline, uploads the grades for the respective activities from zyBooks to the gradebook.
    • checks that students added a correct 7-digit student ID (notifies them if they did not)
    • helps send out the “light touch feedback”
  • Verifies with the CFM that the reflection grades are also correct.

Chief Information Officer CIO

In a nutshell: Helps assemble the weekly review email.

Works with: CCO, CLO

  • Uses the template to assemble the weekly review email to the class.
    • Includes relevant notes/resources/announcements.
    • Targets students who might be falling behind and need a quick course-correction to know where to start.
  • Works with the CCO helps to update the notes for the weekly review with the added resources.

Chief Lab Developer CLD

In a nutshell: Helps assemble weekly labs and lab activities.

Works with: ALD, CLM, CLO

  • Assemble labs and lab activities / add them to zyBooks, listing the learning objectives and following the other lab guidelines.

Chief Lab Manager CLM

In a nutshell: Manages the labs and recordings.

Works with: CLD, ALD

  • Checks in advance, and then after the labs, whether the lab solutions are available online (e.g., on Chegg); notify the instructor.
  • Post lab recordings - record and upload to the drive the zoom recordings from the labs.
  • Ensures that the lab questions are captured and posted in the class notes (last section of each chapter).

Chief Learning Officer CLO

In a nutshell: Instructor of Record (IoR)

Works with: everyone :-)

  • Helps mentors in all aspects of their job, whenever requested.
  • Reviews this week’s concepts during class time (e.g., quiz and/or labs/zyBooks activities); makes & posts the recording/slides.
  • Sends the weekly review email via an “Instructor note” on Gauchospace.
  • Addresses the weekly reflections.

Chief Notes Manager CNM

In a nutshell: Class-time notetaker.

Works with: CLO, team

  • Takes notes during the class sessions, formats them and posts them in zyBooks.
  • Works with the CLO to process the chat and verify that all was captured. Updates the FAQ.
  • Updates the team regarding any resources that need to be created / mentioned during labs or office hours.

Chief Record Keeper CRK

In a nutshell: Keeps track of the meeting notes and action items.

  • Record meeting notes + action items + documentation of decisions.
  • Post the discussed action items on the meeting notes document.
  • Tag and remind people of the assigned action items and due dates.
